Digital Fusion: Enhancing Bamboo Design Through Photogrammetry and 3D Modeling
Digital prototyping- Rhinoceros 3d, Adobe Photoshop and illustrator
Drawing inspiration from the woodworking workshop and the lush natural surroundings, I selected a leaf as my central motif. As outlined on the previous page, my goal is to design a large structure with modular divisions for a mobile shelter proposal. This initiative seeks to create interconnected modular units that form a communal shelter area, fostering social interaction and mutual support among users. The bamboo structures will reflect the graceful shapes and qualities of leaves, merging natural aesthetics with the durability and sustainability of bamboo. Rooted in Bali's deep connection to nature and community, this project redefines architecture’s role in addressing homelessness, cultivating spaces that are not only functional but also meaningful and transformative.
After creating my concept model with bamboo, I scanned it using photogrammetry and imported the model into Rhinoceros 3D. This approach allowed for deeper analysis and efficient integration of design elements compared to traditional handwork, which can be time-consuming. Bending bamboo and gluing it at precise angles proves challenging even on a scaled model; utilizing a digital medium significantly improved efficiency and accuracy in my design process. This project has provided valuable insights into what to expect in an architectural office, and I truly enjoyed the experience of merging craftsmanship with digital technology.
