This project explored discovering design in everyday life through observational drawing. I chose two fruits—one common in Hong Kong and the other in Los Angeles—to examine their differences in scale, texture, and materiality. By drawing them to scale, I carefully observed how their dimensions and surface qualities contrasted. Photography assisted in analyzing their composition, leading to a deeper understanding of their form and structure. I realized that even familiar objects are rich in overlooked design details. This project highlighted that design exists not only in grand gestures but also in everyday items, prompting me to critically consider how even mundane objects embody unique design principles. This awareness will enhance my future projects. Additionally, the process refined my skills in scale representation and close observation, underscoring the importance of noticing subtle qualities that contribute to overall form.
